About Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards (CMA)
The Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards (CMA) initiative comes from the Citi Foundation, headquartered in New York, USA. Launched in 2005 and now spanning up to 30 countries, the Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards highlights the contributions of microentrepreneurs and microfinance institutions (MFIs) to their local economies. Through the program, the Citi Foundation has invested more than $21 million in microfinance networks and MFIs to convene thousands of key stakeholders that influence sector-wide policy and regulation and encourage innovation around the world. This initiative aims to increase public awareness of the importance of entrepreneurship and microfinance in support of financial inclusion and strengthening the economy of low-income individuals

The objectives of the 2017 Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards program are:
- To raise awareness of how Citi supports economic growth in communities around the world by supporting small businesses and the entrepreneurial ideas of low-income people, including youth.
- To showcase how we are making a positive impact in the lives of low-income people, their families, and communities.
In particular, the program seeks to generate recognition for the extraordinary contributions that individual microentrepreneurs have made to the economic sustainability of their families as well as their communitie
The Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards program has three overarching goals:
First, the program seeks to raise awareness of microfinance, particularly among microentrepreneurs who could benefit from it; to recognize and celebrate the contributions that microentrepreneurs bring to the world economy; and to highlight best practices in microentrepreneurship
Second, the program seeks to build awareness and support of microentrepreneurs by highlighting their talents and accomplishments among the investment and donor community throughout the world.
Third, the program seeks to create the next generation of microfinance networks, build more inclusive financial sectors, and lay the foundation for a flourishing microfinance industry
